"Depression's Mirror"

Acrylic and Oil on 20" x 24" canvas

Updated image 12/31/2006

UPDATE: A 6' tall image of this painting will be hanging in a permanent display at the MOSI Museum. It will be hanging next to a Van Gogh Self Portrait and Munich's "Scream" in an exhibit for mental disorders.

I am honored they asked me permission to display this work.

Warm colours aren't exactly depressing but your skills and ideas have turned it so in this artwork. Good job there!

When I painted this I was in a pretty bad bout with depression but it only lasted about 2 weeks. Once I had finished the painting my depression was gone. I feel that I transferred it to the canvas.

A 6' image of this was just hung on permanent display at the MOSI museum in Florida. It is hanging next to a Van Gogh self-portrait and Muhich's Scream. The curator is going to send me some photos of the display in the next couple of days. I will post them here.

That is great. I am nowhere near as talented as you are in art but I am going to start painting again for therapy. Congratulations on your permanent display! Have a good one.

I know this is old but sweetheart, I don't have talent in painting. Seriously, I don't. I don't know how to explain it. I never was taught to paint. I just did it. And I have to express my feelings with what I had to work with just to make it through the day. Now that I figured out what was wrong with me I haven't felt the 'need' to paint. I may get back into it again to see what comes out. My apartment is too small right now for that.

I really like it. For some reason it makes me really see depression. Usually depression is in the color blue. But depression is really a form of anger centered at yourself. And red tends to be anger. Great work!
